AUA Accreditation Information
Accreditation: The American Urological Association (AUA) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
Credit Designation: The American Urological Association designates this live activity for a maximum of 5.75 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
Other Learners: The AUA is not accredited to offer credit to participants who are not MDs or DOs. However, the AUA will issue documentation of participation that states that the activity was certified for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™.
Evidence Based Content: It is the policy of the AUA to ensure that the content contained in this CME activity is valid, fair, balanced, scientifically rigorous, and free of commercial bias.
AUA Disclosure Policy: All persons in a position to control the content of an educational activity (i.e., activity planners, presenters, authors) are required to disclose to the provider all financial relationships with any commercial interest during the previous 24 months. The AUA must determine if the individual’s relationships may influence the educational content and mitigate any conflicts of interest prior to the commencement of the educational activity. Mitigation of Identified Conflict of Interest: All disclosures will be reviewed by the AUA Conflict of Interest (COI) Review Work Group Chair and/or Vice Chair for identification of conflicts of interest. The AUA COI Review Work Group, working with Office of Education staff, will document the mechanism(s) for management and mitigation of the conflict of interest and final approval of the activity will be documented prior to implementation. Any of the mechanisms below can/will be used to mitigate conflict of interest:
• Peer review for valid, evidence-based content by the AUA COI Review Work Group.
• Attestation that clinical recommendations are evidence-based and free of commercial bias.
• Introduction of a debate format (point-counterpoint)
• Inclusion of moderated panel discussion with unbiased moderator
• Publication of a parallel or rebuttal article for an article that is felt to be biased
• Divestiture of the relationship by faculty
• Recusal from controlling relevant aspects of planning
• Selection of alternative faculty for specific topic
Disclosure Policy Exceptions: In accordance with the ACMCE Standards for Integrity and Independence in Accredited Continuing Education, the AUA is not required to identify, mitigate or disclose relevant financial relationships for any of the activities:
• Accredited education that is non-clinical.
• Accredited education where the learner group is in control of content, such as a spontaneous case conversation among peers.
• Accredited self-directed education where the learner controls their educational goals and reports on changes that resulted.

- Describe advocacy issues that legislators need to know to develop permanent fixes to Medicare payment.

- Discuss specific recommendations the AUA and urologic community can use to expand telemedicine and the policy research data used to support those recommendations.
General Session – Advocating for Prostate Cancer Screenings
- Explain why certain preventative services have a mandated zero percent cost share.
- Explain how broad ranging recommendations by the USPSTF for PSA screenings impact high risk populations.

General Session – Workforce: Present and Future

- Detail policy solutions to support the existing physician workforce, reduce burnout, and prevent urologists from leaving the workforce entirely.
General Session – The Role of the AMA in Physician Advocacy
- Discuss the advocacy priorities for AMA and how those align with AUA’s priorities.
- Explain the importance of the AMA House of Delegates and the AUA’s role within that policymaking body.
General Session – State Advocacy Update
- Explain the recent chaperone rules, Scope of Practice, Interstate Medical Licensure Compact, telehealth, and other hot-button issues in 2023 and how they impact urologic practice.
- Detail how to stay involved with state-level issues after the AUA Summit.
General Session – Prior Authorization or Burden Reduction Roundtable
- Discuss the various policy mechanisms through which policy makers are addressing burden reduction.
- Detail current advocacy and policy efforts to reduce administrative burdens on physicians.
General Session – Need to Know: Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 and its Impact on Urology
- Detail the real-life impacts of the IRA of 2022 on urologists and their practices.
